Maranda Witherspoon, MPPA, is principal and CEO of MWR Consulting. Ms. Witherspoon earned her Master of Public Policy with a concentration on Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the University of Missouri St. Louis and a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and Planning from Tennessee State University. Ms. Witherspoon brings over a decade of experience working in the social service, philanthropic, and community health field.
Notable organizations that Ms. Witherspoon has worked with over the years include Missouri Foundation of Health, Washington University, Webster University, Missouri Baptist University, City of St. Louis Department of Health, Lindenwood University, United Way of Greater St. Louis, and Old North St. Louis Restoration Group. Ms. Witherspoon brings years of experience in community health, grant-making, community engagement, facilitation, technical assistance, project management, project implementation, and smart funds allocation.
Ms. Witherspoon has co-lead the largest funding portfolio ($8 million annually) and is the assigned staff person to the largest geographical area funded by the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH). Since her time with MFH, Ms. Witherspoon has recommended and managed approximately $4.2 million to support policy related work and projects to improve the health of Missourians. She continues to review applications to help ensure smart funds allocations, fosters and facilitates relationships and conversations with stakeholders and provide a level of technical assistance to help strengthen nonprofits in the region.
Throughout her career, Ms. Witherspoon has worked to improve the community she serves. She is a published author, an adjunct professor at Missouri Baptist University and Webster University, which are both located in St. Louis, Missouri. Currently she is a member of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP), Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE), and a PLACES fellow.
